The NAACP passed a motion Tuesday calling for the impeachment of President Donald Trump at its 110th annual national convention in Detroit.

The announcement of the motion’s passing was met with cheers from the audience.
Derrick Johnson, the president of the NAACP, condemned the president for his behavior.
“The pattern of Trump’s misconduct is unmistakable and has proven time and time again that he is unfit to serve as the president of this country,” said Johnson in a statement.
Johnson listed Trump’s immigration policies, behavior toward minorities, and role in the investigation by Robert Mueller as reasons the organization is calling for impeachment.
“This president has led one of the most racist and xenophobic administrations since the Jim Crow era. Trump needs to know that he is not above the law and the crimes that he has committed, and he must be prosecuted,” Johnson said. “We will make sure that the NAACP is at the forefront of pushing Congress to proceed with the impeachment process.”

The advocacy group voted on the resolution during a speech by Rep. Al Green (D-TX-09).
“We have in the White House a person who does not respect the humanity of the people that we represent,” Green said in his speech at the convention. “We have in the White House a person who is ruthless and lawless, and I am a person who believes that such a person should not occupy the White House of the United States of America.”
Green, who said he is a lifelong member of the NAACP, recently filed articles of impeachment to the U.S. House of Representatives for the third time on July 16. The bill was voted down 332-95. The previous two bills were also voted against.
“To condemn a racist President is not enough, we must impeach him,” Green said in a statement when he filed his latest bill. “The world is watching, and history will judge us all.”
The NAACP also voted on resolutions supporting criminal justice reform, transgender rights and public health.
Neither the NAACP nor Congressman Green’s office responded to a request for comment.
